ISO 45001 Audits

Pre-Assessment (Optional)
Before the formal audit process begins, an optional pre-assessment can be conducted. This informal review helps identify strengths and weaknesses, giving you the opportunity to address any issues before the actual audit.

Stage 1 Audit: Document Review
The first formal audit, known as the Stage 1 Audit, focuses on reviewing your documented management system. The objectives are to:

• Assess the completeness and readiness of your documentation.
• Understand your organisation’s context and scope of the OHSMS.
• Identify any gaps that need to be addressed before the Stage 2 Audit.

Stage 2 Audit: On-Site Assessment
The Stage 2 Audit is a thorough on-site assessment of your OHSMS. The Safety Lab NZ auditor will:

• Evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of your management system.
• Verify compliance with ISO 45001 requirements.
• Identify any nonconformities or areas for improvement.

Upon successful completion of the Stage 2 Audit, your organisation will be recommended for ISO 45001 certification.

Annual Surveillance Audits
To ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement, annual surveillance audits are conducted in the first and second years following certification. These audits focus on:

• Reviewing the implementation of corrective actions from previous audits.
• Assessing the maintenance and performance of your OHSMS.
• Ensuring that your system continues to meet ISO 45001 standards.

Recertification Audit
At the end of the three-year certification cycle, a comprehensive recertification audit is conducted. This audit is similar to the Stage 2 Audit and aims to:

• Evaluate the overall effectiveness of your OHSMS.
• Verify that your system continues to meet ISO 45001 requirements.
• Identify any new areas for improvement.
